This ...How do directors like this get away with it? This is undergrad emo bullshit of the highest degree. There is zero depth or sophistication to what Haneke is saying, and it ignores the different lives that people lead in the same modern world. The characters in this film are certainly not meant to be of themselves, they are just standins for any modern family. But that is just narrow minded. There are the majority of people who are not depressed to the point of suicide with modern life, those that recognise the flaws in the way we live but also that there's this thing called self-determination. This family could have done with a nice picnic or a game of scrabble... or a nice big cup of 'get over it'...<br /><br />Bottom line is that this film is extremely shallow, adolescent dreck that masquerades as high art.
